FRESH SPORT CARS

Today in Munich Audi launched the first of what is certain to be a larger test program for the A1 E-Tron electric car. In partnership with E.ON, Munich’s Stadtwerke München (SWM) utility company and the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Audi will roll out 20 E-Tron cars and build 200 charging stations in the European hub. As a part of a larger “Model Region Electromobility Munich” commissioned by the German federal government, the pilot project will examine further use of electric cars, the infrastructure required for them to operate, as well as the driving habits of those who use the cars.
Unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show, the A1 e-tron uses a rotary engine and electric motor, operating similarly to the Chevy Volt. It allows for 30 miles of emissions free driving before the gasoline engine kicks in to power the batteries and provide an additional 124-mile of travel distance.
