new modification car

Kamis, 28 Oktober 2010

Italian brands The Lavazza GT-R unveiled, Simbol Design has some pictures and specifications for the new super sports car. Simbol Design has created this impressive new V12 supercar producing 620 hp while weighing a mere 2380 lbs. This gives the car an exceptional power to weight ratio of 3.8 lb.
2011 Simbol Design Sports Cars Lavazza GTX-R The New Super Sports Cars
Simbol Design's Lavazza GTX-R body made of carbon-Kevlar built atop a tubular steel frame. And since German powerplants have emerged as the new crate engine of choice for niche manufacturers from Spyker and Wiesmann to Gumpert and Pagani, the Lavazza packs a BMW-sourced 5.4-liter V12, picking up Lamborghini's tractor-origins mantle with an electro-pneumatic transmission reportedly sourced from a bus. Sources differ on the engine's output – alternately claiming 489 horsepower or 620 – but either way, 0-60 mph times quoted around the four-and-a-half second sound conservative.
The 2011 Simbol Design Sports Cars Lavazza GTX-R The New Super Sports Cars will be offered in both coupe and roadster versions and will be built in carbon kevlar. This will help the car get its weight down to about 2381 lbs. On the exterior, the 2011 Simbol Design Sports Cars Lavazza GTX-R will get fixed front diverters and rear venturi intakes with adjustable side diverters, an adjustable rear wing, and a roof scoop.
The front of the car may look a little like a Pagani Zonda (or a Zonda on drugs), but the price tag shouldn’t as this car is definitely not fitting into the ranks of the Italian supercars of today. Both coupe and roadster bodystyles are apparently in the works, though there's no word on availability or pricing just yet, but are exclusive to models such as this, you can not expect that the cheap.

Few marques manage to tread the line between sportiness and elegance quite so exquisitely as Maserati. But some are looking for something that errs a little more towards the former, and for them the Trident marque has launched the MC Sport Line.

One step off the track and onto the road this side of a race-spec MC GT4, the MC Sport line gives Gran Turismo S buyers a catalog of optional extras, from carbon fiber bits all the way up to the exclusive limited edition model made for the Middle East. The range was initially unveiled at the local Bologna Motor Show, but this was our first chance to get next to it and bring you the results.

19011-2010-Ferrari-California
Ferrari announced its financial results today, and the company has wasted no time in gloating that sales in the USA are up 10% while Chinese sales are up 20%, a number that is “likely to rise further still in the coming months”.
Ferrari credits the California, 458 Italia and 599 GTO with some of their sucess, but surely the real credit goes to their Ferrari boutiques which sell branded merchandise, a license to print money venture that comprises the bulk of their profits. Merchandise sales are up 40% this year, proving that while the wealthy still have money for cars, there is always a demand for upper-middle class folks to associate themselves with upscale brands.

http://www.caradvice.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Porsche-918-Spyder-concept-1-625x441.jpg

Porsche has green-lit their hybrid supercar concept, the 918 Spyder, for production. The 918 Spyder, able to get 78 mpg while hitting 60 mph in 3.2 seconds, is expected to cost $630,000 by the time it hits the streets. We wonder if the much hyped $7,500 tax credit will apply, but when you’re this deep into the price bracket, it scarcely matters.
While purists may scoff at the notion of a Porsche hybrid supercar, the 918 Spyder is a very significant car, whether you love it or hate it. The 918 shows that the word hybrid does not have to mean “boring econobox”, and that even sports car makers like Porsche have capitulated to the “green fever” that has gripped our society over the last decade.

Nissan has just announced a recall for the 2009-10 Cube model for a recall involving the fuel system. According to a NHTSA press release, the vehicle did not pass its fuel leak test, in which the amount of fuel leaking from the car exceeded, “allowable limits” in the agency’s crash test. A fire could result as a consequence. The recall affects 46,000 Cube models built between January 30, 2009 and July 30, 2010.
A fix for the problem will be available by August 30th at which point owners are asked to contact their dealers.
A similar recall was recently issued for the Lexus HS250h.

We already brought you the design mockups of the all new Hyundai Elantra, so here are some pictures of the real thing, driving on the road. With a direct injection 1.6L 4-cylinder making 138 horsepower, the Elantra’s interesting styling and efficient powerplant should make it a competitive alternative to the usual Civic and Corolla.
Considering Hyundai just beat BMW, Audi and Toyota in a German magazine’s quality index, we think optimism is a safe bet when it comes to Hyundai, and the new Elantra.

BMW 760Li by Lumma Design
Shaston, a Switzerland-based international distributor of Windows Mobile devices, just sent us these photos of a BMW 760Li Individual, modified with parts from well-known BMW-tuner Lumma. They didn’t give us a ton of details, but thankfully we’re equipped with a pair of eyeballs to make some observations of our own.
Lumma’s products are beginning to form a consistent shape throughout their BMW line and this 7-Series is no different. The front bumper on this 760Li is clearly from Lumma with many Lumma-inspired features. Wide fender arches flare up the front and the rear, giving the car a more aggressive, sportier profile. They’re a little out-of-place on the luxury 7-Series, but we think it might look a lot cleaner if the arches were molded on and blended in with the body.
There are several vent additions on the vehicle, from the front to the rear with a stylish rear bumper featuring a diffuser between the quad-tipped exhaust. It’s worth noting that the front grilles and mirrors have been swapped out with carbon fiber pieces.
There’s no word if the twin-turbo 6.0-liter V12 gets any power upgrades. It doesn’t need it though, with 554-hp and 553 ft-lbs of torque.
Shaston didn’t disclose much to us other than the first demonstration car is located in Switzerland and that this vehicle (or tuning package) will be launched in three weeks with “the most advanced computerized management.” We’re curious to see if Shaston ties in Windows Mobile products to their vehicle. Hopefully it’ll be the new Windows Phone 7, tying together automotive technology brilliance with wireless technology.

Ever wanted to laugh at the plebian masses in the Ferrari F430s and Lamborghini Gallardos? Ever wanted to do it from the other side of the car’s cabin? Now you can, if you are Scrooge McDuck and have the requisite amount of gold coins needed to buy the Sultan of Brunei’s Ferrari F50, one of two right hand drive models produced.
The F50 was never was well received as the F40 or the Enzo, but with a barely-legal, Formula 1 derived V12, pushrod-actuated dampers and a targa roof, it might be the ultimate in “Look at me, I’m rich, f**k you, peasants” motoring. Sure, a modern Corvette is capable of beating its 3.7 second 0-60 time, but when your car sounds like this, the only numbers you should care about are the ones in your Swiss bank account.

Audi-A7-Sportback-S-Line-01.jpg
The Audi A7 Sportback is a pretty cool looking car, that has something in common with most of the Audi lineup; they all look even better with the S-Line bodykit.
Two levels of S-Line goodies will be available. The first packaging, featuring split 5-spoke 19×9″ wheels and a lower suspension, should be enough for most people. Interior accents in aluminum, brown wood or black lacquer are available, as are a multi-function steering wheel and the option of alcantara inserts in the leather seats.
An exterior kit is also available featuring a new front bumper and front spoiler, a rear valance, a diffuser and redesigned side sills. Chrome exhaust tips are also included.

Ford’s Explorer Sport Track has always been a bit of an oddball. Overlooked by a fair number of consumers, it was every bit as capable as a Nissan Frontier or Toyota Tacoma, they never really sold – sales figures show that Ford moved 75% more Explorers than Sport Tracs.
The ones that did make it on to the streets were often festooned with ugly bodykits and chrome rims, leading us to believe the demise of this vehicle. With the 2011 Explorer switching to a unibody construction, any replacement for the Sport Trac (if there’s one at all) will likely resemble the Honda Ridgeline.

je_design_1.jpg
What’s that you say? You’re tired of news about modified versions of the BMW X6? Well we have a treat in store for you! JE Design has transformed the Audi Q7 to a menacing SUV that could possibly rival BMW’s X6 in the looks department. But even with a 20 percent increase in horsepower (from 233-hp to 285-hp), JE Design’s Audi Q7 can’t keep up with a stock X6.
But let’s focus on the widebody exterior with a custom body kit from JE Design. It isn’t reserved for just the S-Line model, but will fit any Q7 body, except for the W12 TDI. The 12-piece wheel arches are $3,500 and the rear bumper extension is $2,335 while front spoilers can be sold separately for widebody or non-widebody applications for $900. For accessories there are eyelids (headlight covers) for $130 and a rear spoiler for $1,425.
The horsepower upgrade comes from the new ECU that’s available for $1,945 and includes a one-year warranty on the motor, turbocharger, gearbox and drivetrain. This warranty can be extended an additional year for just $260.
To round everything off, there is an electronic lowering kit for $1,850 offering a 1.4-inch drop. To fill the wider and larger wheel wells are 22×10-inch wheels with 295/30/22 tires for a hefty $6,740. Interestingly enough though, JE Design simply uses spacers to push the wheels out instead of doing a wider, more aggressive offset applications. Those spacers cost more too – a little lame in our book.
But hey, if you’re looking to beef up your Q7 to keep up with the looks of newer models from other automakers, perhaps this is an option for you!

Take a look at the Ford Territory SUV pictured above. It looks just like our now-dead North American market Ford Taurus X, right? Underneath, the two cars couldn’t be different. The Taurus X is based on the last generation Taurus, a heavy, lumbering, underpowered behemoth, while the Territory is based on the rear-drive Falcon, and is available with an Inline 6 turbo or a V8.
Naturally, the car was available overseas, manily in Australia but not offered to North Americans. Now it looks like our days of being shut out from choice product is over, as Ford’s Australian division has been tasked with developing a body-on-frame SUV based on the Ranger platform (which, coincidentally, has nothing to do with Ford North America’s venerable compact pickup), that will be sold in every market.
While Ford has previously allowed markets to have their own distinct product, a new strategy known as “One Ford” will mean that vehicles must be developed for the global market and a single variant will be sold across the world. This has some distinct benefits for North America, as it means cars like the Focus will be the same as the highly praised European variants, but it spells doom for Australia, where their beloved Falcon rear-drive sedan is a hit, but does not make much profit.
That means that this new proper SUV will almost certainly come to the United States, and production in America has been mentioned as well. The fact that the head of this project is from Indiana (and also signed off on the 2011 Explorer) makes the case even stronger.

Toyota’s Tacoma pickup is no stranger to being tinkered with by TRD, Toyota’s racing division. With previous special editions like the Prerunner and X-Runner finding success in the marketplace, TRD is introducing two new packages for Toyota’s smallest pickup.
The T|X and T|X Pro will be available on 2 or 4 wheel drive Tacoma Prerunner models with 2 or 4 doors and the TRD Offroad package. 16″ TRD alloy wheels, BF Goodrich tires, tubular side steps, a stainless steel exhaust tip and special graphics comprise the $1,699 T|X Package, a $754 savings compared to ordering each option as a separate component.
The T|X Pro Package costs the same amount but also adds a TRD cat-back exhaust, which makes it the obvious choice in our eyes. The fact that all modifications are covered under a factory warranty makes these packages all the more enticing rather than hitting up the local auto parts store.

Subaru has teamed up with famed rally car builder Vermont SportsCar to prepare two rally cars for their X-Games drivers, Travis Pastrana, Dave Mirra and Sverre Isachsen.
Starting with a 2011 WRX STI, the Vermont SportsCar crew stripped everything out of the interior and did the requisite rollcage and seam welding jobs needed to make the car rigid enough to endure the stresses of rallying. A fire suppression system and fuel cell were also installed, as were EXE-TC coilovers.
Power is rated at 500 horsepower, an incredible figure from the 2.5L flat-four engine. The engine also makes 560lb-ft of torque, enough to alter the earth’s rotation, and that’s with a special restrictor plate fitted. And of course, it wouldn’t be a rally car with an ear-drum-shattering anti-lag system fitted.
With a new event called SuperRally coming to this XGames, Subaru needs to have its baddest rally car yet to fend off the challengers – SuperRally features four cars competing at the same time, and you can bet the Ford’s Fiesta, as well as a multitude of others, will be out for blood.

In response to recent rumors that Toyota’s full-size truck-based SUV, the Sequoia, might be nearing the end of its shelf life, the Japanese automaker issued a statement, aiming to quell the issue. The statement reads as follows:
“Toyota denies any reports of the discontinuation of the Sequoia. For obvious competitive reasons; Toyota does not discuss future product plans. Sequoia continues to be a profitable, high quality vehicle and several years remain in the life of the current generation. Our focus remains on building our vehicles, including Sequoia, with the highest possible quality.”
However, from our observations, the tone of the wording in this statement indicates that perhaps, the rumors might just have some traction, especially in light of upcoming Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards of 35.5 mpg (42 mpg for cars and 26 mpg for light trucks), which will make it tough for large, V8 engined, body-on-frame SUVs like the current Sequoia to meet. Stay tuned for further developments.

Now that Ford has wrestled Ken Block away from the clutches of Subaru, the company is looking to leverage their alliance with the internet superstar beyond their collaboration with the new Fiesta and the upcoming rally car based off the compact hatchback.
In an interview with radio station KROQ, Block was asked about a special edition Fiesta named after him, DC Shoes or one of his other sponsors. Block was only willing to give the standard “We’re discussing those types of things but there’s nothing set in stone at this point,” answer, but it would be foolish of Ford not to leverage his high profile and large fanbase.
With Block already an “internet celebrity”, and the web being a crucial component of the Fiestas marketing campaign, don’t be surprised if the new model shows up in another installment of the Gymkhana videos.

Porsche’s hard-core Cayman ClubSport (CS for short) is rumored to debut at the LA Auto Show in December. Inspired by the Boxster Spyder, the Cayman CS is expected to use a version of that car’s direct-injection 3.4-liter flat-six to make at least 330-hp. Along with a lower curb weight (The Boxster Spyder weighs 176-lbs less than a stock model), the car will get a 7-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission and hit 60 mph in roughly 4.5 seconds. Pricing is expected to be around $65,300.
In addition, Porsche is expected to introduce a new limited edition 911 Speedster model at the Paris Auto Show. It will be limited to just 100 models and feature the Carrera 4S widebody but will be rear-wheel drive. It will come with a 408-hp 3.8-liter flat-six, combined with Porsche’s impressive 7-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. Other highlights will include a limited-slip differential, PCCB brakes and 19-inch wheels. In true Speedster style, it will come exclusively with just two seats and be offered in either blue or white. It won’t be cheap, however, with an MSRP close to $200,000.
Then at the Geneva Auto Show in the Spring, Porsche will deliver the Carrera GTS. It will get unique styling, a sport exhaust and center locking wheels. Like the 911 Speedster it will get the same 408-hp engine, but will be offered with a 6-speed transmission. It will also be rear-drive but with the wider body and track. Both a Coupe and Cabriolet will be offered priced at $103,100 and $112,900 respectively.

Misha Designs has mostly specialized in Porsche spoilers in the past but we’re guessing given the fairly decent success they’ve had with their Mercedes-Benz SL project, the company decided to dabble in producing a full kit for the Porsche 997. Well, we’re finding the result a little less than stellar, but part of it might be attributed to the corny Photoshop work they did for their own press photos.
With a Gemballa-like tuning package, Misha’s GTM Aero Kit makes isn’t as sophisticated as some and makes the 997 Turbo look almost like a toy car.
In the rear, the bumper and diffuser combo has way too much going on with a mash up of vents, lines and angles. But at least it’s in carbon fiber. Our biggest design gripe is with the center of the rear bumper where Misha throws down a lot of straight and angled lines for the license plate area – on a vehicle known for its round shape.
We won’t deny that some may really like the aero kit – we’ve certainly seen a lot worse on various other cars. Perhaps we’re just turned off by the Photoshopped motion blur on the still photos.

After news of a track-only GT-R surfaced several months ago, Nissan has now released their 2011 GT-R Club Track Edition, a collaboration of several brilliant minds in Japan. Nissan teamed up with NISMO, Nova Engineering and Nordring for this special edition GT-R that’s only available to members of The Prestige Club of GT-R.
Specific race components are utilized on this track edition GT-R, focusing on the fact that it’s not entirely made as a dual-purpose daily driver. NISMO prefers if owners keep the car strictly for track use due to its extensive modifications which include an automatic fire suppression system, 2-way adjustable Bilstein dampers, and custom ECM, TCM, ABS / VCD upgrades on the management side.
On the outside, a front lip spoiler and under cover have been added along with a set of 20-inch Rays Forged Aluminum wheels with a staggered setup – 9.5 width with 45 offset in the front and 10.5 width with 25 offset in the rear. The rubber of choice for the track edition vehicle are Dunlop Direzza Long Life Slicks.
The car is rated at “over” 493-hp and 434 ft-lbs of torque. It also carries quite the price premium. The vehicle itself is a little over $120,000 but also requires a membership to The Prestige Club of GT-R which is around $23,000 per year. The membership gives you your own car number, two official track meets and entry to their annual get together. Renewal is cheaper at half the price, around $11,500.

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past few years, you know all about the hard knocks the automotive industry has been dealt. But Chrysler dealers are seeing a boost thanks to women who have given them some much-needed props.
A recent survey conducted by Women-Drivers.com has ranked Jeep dealers in the number two spot overall in its semi-annual report of Top Auto Brands as rated by women’s dealership reviews. The domestic Chrysler brand came in just behind the number one ranked Mercedes dealers and ahead of Lexus and BMW dealers, who come in at three and four respectively.
And there’s even more good news for Chrysler brand dealers – they also came in at number five, while Dodge dealers came in at nine. Buick was the only GM brand whose dealers were in the top 10 (Buick took the number eight spot).
The results were based on scores given by survey respondents regarding their dealership experience during vehicle purchase, as well as the car browsing process and vehicle service experience. The dealerships were rated and scored in each category and given an overall score.
More than half of women who are in the market for a new car visit three or more dealerships during the process, says Anne Fleming, president of Women-Drivers.com. A woman’s browsing experience determines where she will buy, she adds.
“No one captures the browsing information; even in CSI, browsing isn’t scored,” Fleming says. “If she has a great browsing experience, she’s going to come back. If she doesn’t, she’s gone.”

You know how car alarms go off and no one pays any attention to them? Sure, they’re annoying, but now that we’re used to them, it just becomes part of the urban white noise. Forget installing a car alarm – if you want to protect your car against theft, just paint it pink.
We’re not sure if the girlish paint job would scare off car-jackers from taking your Lamborghini Murcielago LP 670-4 or Audi R8. But the one thing we are sure about is that car thieves are in the business of making money, and they know that the most popular colors will bring in the highest resale value. Here’s the breakdown of the most popular colors in 2010: White came in first with 20 percent of new car consumers picking this color, followed by 17 percent in black and silver, and 13 percent chose blue. Even though a white and a yellow car cost the same price, the resale value of the white car can be up to $1,000 more.
So the colors that will keep those pesky thieves away from your car are yellow, gold, brown, beige and other bright colors (like pink). They have a lower resale value, and are more likely to stick out if a car thief is trying to make a clean get-away.
And there’s a study to back this information up. A study in the Netherlands detailed car thieves’ preferences – from 2004 to 2008, the most commonly colored vehicle stolen was black, followed by gray/silver cars. And what about the 109 pink cars they used in the study? You guessed it – not one was stolen, proving that a bright and uncommon color may be as effective deterrent as an expensive security system. Ben Vollaard, who conducted the research, says, “If the aversion to driving a car in an offbeat color is not too high – or if someone actually enjoys it – then buying deterrence through an uncommon car color may be at least as good a deal as buying deterrence through an expensive car Audi R8 device.”

Lotus will make three vehicle debuts at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, including the world premiere of an all-new track car, which will carry the 125 name. No details about the 125 have been provided, but judging from past Lotus models it’s likely a more hard-core version of the 2-Eleven, or a 2-Eleven style car based on the Evora chassis. (We hope!)
Another track-only model will also make it’s North American premiere, the Evora Cup GT4. Weighing 400 lbs less than the standard Evora at just 2,645 lbs and sporting a Cosworth 4.0-liter V6 engine with 360-hp, it’s a genuine track car built for the European GT4 series. Hopefully the debut at Pebble will be accompanied by an announcement that the Evora Cup GT4 will also compete in the U.S.
The third model set to debut is a U.S.-spec version of the restyled 2011 Elise SC RGB Edition. The RGB name comes from long-time (but now retired) Director of Vehicle Engineering Roger George Becker, who dedicated 44 years of his life to developing Lotus vehicles. In Europe, RGB models are full-loaded, offering most option packages and items like light-weight forged alloy wheels. Four colors are offered in Europe: Aspen White, Starlight Black, Solar Yellow and Carbon Grey. All models will also get a numbered plaque and will be signed by Roger Becker.

Car Town Facebook Game

Forget Farmville. All the cool kids will be out and about on Facebook using the all-new Car Town game.
Facebook’s Car Town is all about collecting cars. Once you join the game, you’re given a basic garage that represents your home base. You’ll also receive credits to customize their garage or to “buy” a car. You start with a base model car and move on up to exotic vehicles such as the McLaren F1, Lamborghini LP670-4 SuperVeloce and Mercedes SLR McLaren . You’ll find all types of cars in here, even Indy Cars.
It’s super easy to play. Car Town players earn points by performing jobs or taking on challenges. You also build your own garages with service bays so you can take on more jobs, and then hire and interact with friends in the game. Of course, you add to your growing car collection. In the showrooms, you can wash cars, change spark plugs and deliver pizzas so you can squirrel away enough money for you next big purchase.
In Car Town, you can do anything you would in your real car – race, take a trip, run errands or go for a Sunday drive. But what has to be the funniest thing to do in Car Town is customize your virtual rides. You can pimp your Car Town ride by changing its wheels, tires, chassis, body kits, paint scheme and graphics. You can even upload your own graphics to add to the flanks of your car, truly making your cars your own

Several months ago the first reports of a “baby” FT-86/FR-S rear-drive sports car emerged and now that project is taking shape. Toyota has reportedly begun the work of building this lower cost alternative to the FR-S as a tribute to chief test driver Hiromu Naruse, who died recently while testing a Lexus LFA in Germany.
The new car would also be a front-engine, rear drive model and will be based on the GRMN Hot Hatch Concept that was first shown at the Tokyo Auto Salon earlier this year. Based on the Toyota Aygo this concept features a Daihatsu rear-drive setup and a 1.5-liter engine making around 100-hp. That’s not much, but the car is expected to weight right around the 2,000 lb mark. The hatch body will be tossed in favor or a coupe profile and to add to the package, Toyota will also maintain the concept’s race-ready double wishbone rear suspension. Toyota is said to be targeting a 1.4 million yen price point

They might not get you across the finish line, but these miniatures are still winners. Ferrari is celebrating the cars that have made their mark on the automotive landscape. From the superb 599 GTO that made its impressive launch at Beijing Motor Show, to the short wheelbase version of the Spider 250 California that debuted Geneva show in 1960, you can now own a little piece of Ferrari memorabilia.
These limited edition replicas are at 1/8 scale, measuring in at 60 cm. Perched on a carbon-fiber base, the models come with a plaque that records the number of that car’s limited edition. There are 99 models available for both of the F10 Formula 1 cars, and 199 available for the 599 GTO and the Spider 250 California.
And just because they’re small, it doesn’t mean any less time was spent making them. In fact, each master model took from 3,500 to 4,000 hours to craft, and was carried out by a team of highly skilled model makers. No detail has been overlooked – each car is a perfect replica, from the chassis, to the interior, to the body and the engine. Used to create molds for the models in limited edition series, the master parts were then cast in prototyping resin and assembled, taking about 300 hours for each replica. Every model comes with a signed certificate of authentication.
If you’re an avid Ferrari collector or have an empty spot in the den that needs to be filled, drop by the Ferrari Store before they’re all gone.

Toyota Prius Aero Kit

wald_prius_1.jpg
The world of tuning hybrids has really evolved in a short period of time. The good looks of the Honda Insight and Toyota Prius have really captured the Japanese aftermarket. We saw it first hand at the 2010 Tokyo Auto Salon, where the overwhelming amount of customized hybrids caught us by surprise.
Wald International has built a reputation over the years as one of Japan’s premiere manufacturers of high quality styling kits. Mostly geared towards luxury sedans and the entire VIP movement, Wald has now taken a different approach by teasing an upcoming kit for the Toyota Prius. Yep, even Wald is getting their hands dirty with the hybrids.
We’ve only been treated with a single photo of the kit, but we’re already digging it. Instead of changing the entire look of the car and messing with the Prius’ drag coefficient bod, Wald took a conservative approach, adding flair to the front bumper while maintaining a majority of the stock look. We particularly like the side skirts which are a perfect fit to the Prius’ body. We’re curious to see how the rear of the project is shaping up; we’ll be sure to report when we get a full release and pricing on the package.

Even since the launch of the Venza, Toyota has been spicing up its models with a bit more road presence. Above is the first look at what the new 2011 Highlander will look like – or at least what it will look like when it is sold in Russia for the first time. To celebrate the model’s introduction into the Russian marketplace Toyota is debuting the facelifted version at the Moscow Auto Show later this month.
When it does arrive in North America, it is expected to maintain many of the same design cues in Toyota’s bid to revamp its image.
No information is available on updates to the engine, drivetrain or any additional content.

In 2012 Buick will expand its lineup further down-market, introducing the Verano compact below the Regal. Riding on the same architecture as the Chinese Buick Excelle (and Chevy Cruze), several engines are possible. For starters it could be offered with the Cruze’s 1.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, but a more likely candidate is the 181-hp turbocharged 1.6-liter currently offered on the Excelle GT in China.
After this model debuts we’ll see Buick unveil a compact crossover called the Encore. The basis for this vehicle is not entirely known, with different sources claiming it will be based on the Cruze architecture, while others suggest it will run on the upcoming Aveo platform – suggesting it will be a small vehicle indeed.
In related Buick news, before 2012 we’re set to receive a hybrid version of the LaCrosse and past 2012 GM has indicated plans to build a new Buick flagship based on the same platform as the upcoming Cadillac XTS.

Chevy Cruze SS Model

With the launch of the new Chevy Cruze, rumors have already started popping up about a possible SS model. And why not; the Cobalt got an SS model and while the initial offering wasn’t overly special, the final turbocharged version was so impressive it could hand it to an EVO on a racetrack.
But according to Chevy marketing boss Jim Campbell a Cruze SS isn’t coming. And if Chevy was planning an SS like the stickered-up model sold in Singapore, then were happy we’ll never see it. But wait, Campbell only said that there won’t be one of the 2011 model year and considering how production cycles work, that makes complete sense. And besides, it doesn’t have to wear the SS badge to be a performance car.
The folks at Jalopnik who interviewed Campbell suggest that if Ford does decide to deliver on a high-powered Focus then a more potent Cruze looks like a reality. And guess what? Ford is set to deliver a performance Focus using EcoBoost technology, and they’ve already said it will be offered globally.

General Motors is not planning to change the Chevy Corvette to a mid-engine layout in future generations, despite numerous reports indicating it would. GM’s VP of global engineering, Karl-Friedrich Stracke, recently commented that the much-rumored switch had no basis in truth. In addition, GM spokesman Dan Flores reiterated Stracke’s comments stating that, “The rumors and speculation about the Corvette are just that. There is no mid-engine in the plans.”
Sadly, Flores also commented that a dual-clutch transmission isn’t planned either – something GM will eventually need if it wants the Corvette to stay competitive with high-powered European sports cars. News of a mid-engined layout and dual-clutch tranny for the Vette popped up recently when a Saab engineer commented to a trade publication that the Swedish division had developed just such a unit for a future mid-engine Corvette.
When asked about a hybrid Corvette, Stracke didn’t deny the possibility, instead commenting about CAFE standards and how offering a hybrid version could be come a mainstream offering, while Chevy would still look to build a conventional powertrain for a small number of dedicated high-performance enthusiasts. Interestingly, he did seem to consider the hybrid layout as an alternative to a high-powered one, rather than using hybrid technology to add power and performance – something other automakers are already are doing.

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Aston Martin’s design director, Marek Reichman, and their engineering manager, Chris Porritt, will be competing in the Aston Martin GT4 Challenge on August 21st at Oulton Park. The Aston Martin GT4 Challenge is a one-make race series created by the British exotic car maker.
This will be Reichman’s first real event in a Vantage GT4, despite being part of the design team with Aston Martin’s race cars including the LMP1. “The design team has been closely involved in the design of all our race cars, from the works LMP1 prototype to the Vantage GT4,” Reichman said, “but I’ve always longed to get even more closely involved and the Aston Martin GT4 Challenge provides the perfect introduction to GT4 racing for me.”
His co-driver will be Chris Porritt, Aston Martin’s engineering manager. Porritt has experience behind the wheel of a GT4-spec Aston, especially on Nurburgring, and Oulton Park is his home track. Though he’s never raced a GT4 car at Oulton Park, we’re going to guess that he’ll acclimate rather quickly.

Volkswagen released the CrossTouran, a pseudo-offroad version of their Touran microvan, for world markets. The CrossTouran joins the CrossPolo and CrossFox in yet another variant for people who want a car just a bit higher off the ground than Volkswagen usually produces.
With a raised suspension, special wheels and a new bodykit, the CrossTouran gets an interior with aluminum trim throughout the cabin. The CrossTouran also gets widened wheel arches to give it a more muscular appearance. The CrossTouran will get the full range of direct injected motors, including the 1.2L TSI four-cylinder and the 1.4L twincharged TFSI, as well as TDI options. The CrossTouran is expected to retail €27,700.

Ford and famed motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson have a long and successful history collaborating on special edition pickups. Recently, Ford announced that it will offer another H-D edition of it’s best selling F-150 for 2011, with a number of significant features.
Most notable is the adoption of the new 6.2-liter V8, which replaces the venerable 5.4 unit. Also found in the SVT Raptor, this engine is rated at 411 horsepower and 434 ft-lbs of torque , which represents a significant increase in performance of the 5.4 and results in a tow rating capacity of 9,300 lbs for the H-D edition truck. Other standard features on the Harley-Davidson edition will include a voice activated navigation system and Ford’s SYNC, a 4.2-inch ‘productivity’ screen, power moonroof and a remote start system.
On the outside, the H-D sports unique 22-inch Euroflange wheels, a special grille, graphics and emblems, plus a choice of Tuxedo Black or Ingot Silver exterior paint colors. Pricing had yet to be announced at posting time, though expect the Harley-Davidson F-150 to slot in above the F-150 Platinum, which currently retails in the $40,000 range before options and taxes.

De Tomaso releases new renderings of a future car set to compete with the Mercedes CLS – its called the Ghepardo. The four-door sports cars, Ghepardo, suggests the new concept cars for the future De Tomaso. Ghepardo is designed with great respect for the De Tomaso history and design language, and several elements are inspired by the surface treatments of the Pantera and Mangusta. It is designed to match the future trends within the automotive industry both in design and functionality.
De Tomaso Ghepardo Sports Cars Concept Designed For The Future
This entire auto is inspired not only by the De Tomaso past line of cars, but by a fine taylor-made Italian suit as well. De Tomaso was considered the entry level to the holy grail of Italian super cars in the 1960s and 1970s. De Tomaso sport cars Pantera and Mangusta are used as inspiration for surface treatments and more. Auto designer Frederik Tjellesen has created a concept sports car for an Italian car manufacturer, De Tomaso, which runs on a low-emission hybrid engine. Christened the Ghepardo, the concept is a four-door sports car that boasts Ecoboost technology and methanol fuel cells.
The De Tomaso Ghepardo Sports Cars Concept Designed For The Future uses technology based on both the latest production sports cars as well as the concepts cars currently being tested. Ghepardo may be powered either by a Ford twin-turbo ecoboost 3.5 V6 producing 465 bhp or by four electric in-hub fuel cells each producing 85 Kw (combined an equivalent of 440 bhp). Electricity is produced by a methanol fuel cell stack located beneath the 500 litre boot. Active aerofoils are incorporated in the ‘c-pillar/rear wing’ giving the car optimal down force at any speed. The Ghepardo measures a length of 4820 mm, a width of 1970 mm, height of 1300 mm and a wheel base of 2990 mm.
The sports cars were as fast and as beautiful, however, more inexpensive than the ones of Ferrari and Lamborghini. In 1971, De Tomaso introduced the Deauville which was the fastest saloon car at the time. It was referred to as a super saloon by founder Alejandro De Tomaso. Inspired by the spirit of the Deauville, the De Tomaso Ghepardo is a modern four door fuel cell super car with a surface treatment inspired by the legendary De Tomasos of the 60s and 70s and designed for the future.
As an inspirational effect from the Mangusta, in  Ghepardo De Tomaso the rear wing function as the boot cover and the rear door. With elegant surface, volume, stand, lines with a smooth eye catching finish, the bottom windows are so designed that the rider can have an idea of the speed. Run by a power of approximately 450HP, this car surely binds style with future trend of the car.

As one of the lead-up events to the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, The Quail, is quickly emerging as a rival venue showcasing vehicles both classic and modern. This year, The Quail landed a coup, with the world premiere of the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport – the world’s fastest production car.
Rather than the ostentatious orange and black model that achieved the record setting 267.81-mph time, Bugatti instead showed off a deep blue carbon fiber Super Sport. As for what makes it so super, well, the quad-turbo W16 engine gets even more power (1,200-hp to be exact), while the body was reworked for an even more aerodynamic shape.
Be sure to check out our extensive gallery below and try to ignore the unfinished Bugatti stand that’s covered in wet grass – we were too eager to get these pics up to wait. Besides, at The Quail that grass probably costs almost as much as the Veyron.

In honor of the 10th anniversary of Toyota Prius sales in the United States, Toyota is holding a contest to find the “most passionate Prius fan in the United States”, who will then have the privilege of hosting the Prius’ 10th anniversary celebration in their hometown.
The Toyota press release asks owners “Are you a fuel-efficient hyper-miler, an eco-warrior or tech-savvy gadget guru? Do you volunteer in your community? Toyota wants to hear from you! Submit a video or several photos demonstrating your Prius passion for a chance to host the official 10 Years of Toyota Prius Anniversary Celebration in your hometown. Toyota will select the Top 10 finalists and leave it to the Prius community to decide who should be crowned the most passionate Prius fan.”
Unfortunately, none of the Autoguide crew can claim to be any of the above, but we are excited for what was strongly hinted at in a press briefing that mentioned a series of “reveals” leading up to the event, which might be a new model introduction – or we’re confusing our hopes with reality.
